IS SOLAR WORTH IT?

There are many ways you can try to answer this question. Some like to look at the payback period, others look at the return and are comparing it with a bank loan, while some compare the interest on their home-loan with the savings to identify that it is cashflow positive, and others like to look at the environmental benefits… In the graph below you can see the estimated amount of money you may save over the 25-year life span of your system. Some people say it is not a good investment anymore since the incentives and the feed-in tariff have been reduced. Our response is that the payback period hasn’t fluctuated much since 2009 as the component prices as well as the rebates have come down significantly. In other words, the investment is as good as ever.

Savings

The main power consumption in residential buildings usually happens in the morning and in the evening. The solar system however performs at its peak in the middle of the day. Consequently, some of the solar generated electricity will be exported into the grid which earns you credits on your electricity bill.

Payback Period — Is this important?

When we talk about solar systems, payback is a common question we get. We provide this information on our quote for you. BUT let’s have a think about this: How important is this really? The thing is that a solar system WILL pay for itself, as you will be paying much less for electricity. And after a while you will profit off of it. However, most of investments you will make in your life have no pay back at all and people do not think twice about investing. Your car starts losing value the minute you drive it. Your system will reduce your carbon footprint and help our planet. We think it is worth it no matter how you look at it.

CO2 Savings and Environmental Benefits

Producing electricity on site by using a renewable energy source like the sun is reducing the need of coal generated electricity. The system we design for you will help to reduce several tons of CO2 per year. We include a calculation that lets you can see how many tons, as well as the percentage green electricity your solar system supplies of your household’s total usage on your quote.

Added value

Will a solar system add value to my property? The answer to that is simply No. However, it may make it more attractive for people to buy your house. We have also had customers that have taken their system with them to their new house. It may take some adjustment and re-installation costs, but there is no reason not to take it. Talk to us about feasibility before you move.

Some customer have excluded the solar sytem & battery from the sale of the house and have negotiated with the new owner afterwards.

Grid Block / Zero Export

More and more Victorians who would like to invest in a solar system/own a system are learning that they are blocked from feeding into the grid. Early on in our design process we will assess the grid conneciton situation and let you know. Common limits are 5kW export per phase. If the inverter capacity exceeds this limit we are required to install an export limiting device for the times your solar system generates more power and you are using very little power on site. This can have an impact on our annual power generation in case the export limit is coming into effect regularly.

Regulators have been warning distributors for years to upgrade their systems. Some of the distributors are working on their infrastructure now, while others are allowing for a restricted amount of energy contribution.

We will keep you updated on developments, as soon as they arise.
