Yes, in Victoria, there are critical regulations and standards governing solar installations that must be followed to ensure the proper functioning, safety, and compliance of your system.
1. Mandatory Technical Compliance (managed by TCK Solar)
TCK Solar manages the applications and ensures compliance with these non-negotiable requirements:
- Australian Standards & Electrical Safety: Compliance with all Australian Standards for electrical safety and wiring is mandatory, and is enforced by Energy Safe Victoria (ESV). This guarantees the electrical work is performed safely and correctly by licensed workers and checked by an independent third-party electrical inspector, who upon assessing the full compliance of the installation, will issue a Certificate of Electrical Safety (CES)
- Grid Connection: TCK Solar must obtain the required technical pre-approval from your local electricity distributor to ensure your system can safely connect to the electricity grid.
2. Local Approvals (property owner responsibility)
You are responsible for checking and obtaining approvals in these specific areas:
- Local Council Planning Permits: Councils may have their own regulations regarding the placement, aesthetics, and height of solar systems, particularly in areas with Heritage Overlays or specific zoning laws. If a Planning Permit is required, TCK Solar provides the technical drawings for you to use, however it’s the property owners responsibility for submitting the application to Council
- Owners Corporation (OC) Approval: If you live in a townhouse or unit governed by an Owners Corporation, you must seek and obtain approval from the OC before proceeding, as the roof is typically considered common property.
TCK Solar will guide you through the process, as it’s important to check these local requirements to ensure a smooth installation.
