Yes. Victorians can benefit from two tiers of government support: a national upfront discount Small Scale Technology Certificates (STCs) and the Victorian State rebates and loans from Solar Victoria. These combined incentives significantly reduce your installation costs, making solar more affordable.
Federal Rebate (Small-scale Technology Certificates – STCs)
This is the largest initial discount and is available to all eligible homes nationwide. It is automatically deducted from your TCK Solar quote. STC’s apply for both solar panels and batteries.
Solar Victoria’s Solar Homes Program (State Incentives)
The Victorian Government offers additional support for eligible owner-occupiers (and rental properties):
a. Solar Panel (PV) Rebate
- Cash: A rebate of $1,400 for the installation of a solar panel system
- Interest-Free Loan: You may also be eligible for an interest-free loan of $1,400 to match the rebate amount.
- Eligibility Check: Owner-occupiers must have a combined household taxable income of less than $210,000 per year and your home must be worth less than $3M on your council rates notice
b. Battery Storage Rebate (Federal Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program)
The Victorian battery loan program has closed. Financial support for installing batteries is now delivered through an expansion of the Federal Governments STC scheme and called the Cheaper Home Batteries Program.
- Upfront Discount: Eligible systems receive a discount per usable kilowatt-hour (kWh) of battery capacity (the amount is adjusted annually and varies with the STC price)
- Capacity Limit: The federal discount applies on a sliding scale depending on the size of the battery system you install
- System Size Eligibility: The battery system must have a nominal usage battery storage capacity between 5 kWh and 100 kWh and be Virtual Power Plant (VPP) capable.
