Frequently Asked Questions

Is solar power reliable?

Yes, solar power is highly reliable as a long-term energy source, however its reliability during a blackout or brownout, depends entirely on your setup.

Reliability Against Grid Failure

  • Solar system WITH NO battery storage: A standard grid-connected solar system will automatically shut down when the electricity grid goes down (due to mandatory safety regulations). Unfortunately, without a backup supply of stored electricity, you will not have power during a blackout, even if the sun is shining
  • Solar system WITH battery storage: When incorporating grid-connected battery storage together with your solar panels, your system provides true reliability. The battery, with its separate gateway, isolates your home from the grid, allowing you to use stored energy (or newly generated solar energy) to keep essential appliances running in the event of a blackout or brownout (unplanned versus planned electricity outages), giving you confidence and true peace of mind.

Long-Term System Reliability

For reliable energy production throughout the year, TCK Solar recommends:

  • Durability: The best quality solar panels are built to withstand severe weather and have decades-long warranties, with extremely low degradation year-on-year, ensuring a consistent energy source for 30-40 years
  • Seasonal performance: Solar panels generate electricity even in cooler temperatures; in fact, cooler weather often enhances their efficiency
  • Maintenance: To maintain optimal long-term performance, our install team can undertake routine checks of your system (wiring and inverters) and cleaning of your solar panels
  • Monitoring: TCK Solar provides 24/7 remote monitoring of your solar system with active alerts received by our team for major issues such as faults and failures, ensuring your system operates at peak performance and you’re able to claim warranties on any materials that have faults or failures.
